| BIO |

I've been drawing for a long time, or then again I may never have drawn before. It's impossible for me to be sure for exactly how long because I can't calculate how long versions of myself have been drawing (or not drawing) in other dimensions and time lines. If you look at your reflection in a mirror in front of you and simultaneously a mirror behind you, you can see infinity.
This is a visual example of how long I have been possibly drawing: Infinity ... Or it shows how much I haven't drawn. Is the past still a reality? If not, then I've never drawn anything in my life. And if reality is an illusion (like in The Matrix) then I never really will draw anything ever. But to quote the great Conan, The Cimmerian, "... If life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content.”
I drew a lot of circles as an infant. That is beyond my memory but I still do draw circles to this day. I try overcome self-doubt with regards to my work by drawing as I did earlier in my life: with a naive passion and intense enthusiasm for the subject matter. I get inspiration from comic books, Heavy Metal music, Dungeons&Dragons, epic Fantasy literature, pulpy Sword & Sorcery tales, exploitation cinema and pre-Renaissance Italian painters. I try to plan ahead as little as possible to allow space for my stream of consciousness to plant ideas.
I was born in Canada but my folks quickly moved us to the suburbs outside New York City when my pop finished off his schooling in science. I was nearly a year old.
I studied illustration at Syracuse University, where I spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy. I received a M.F.A. in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts.
Since graduating from college, in addition to doing freelance illustration, I've worked in newspapers and new media design.
My other previous jobs have included: lifeguard, cashier at Toys 'R' Us during the holiday season, park ranger assistant, mover, bus boy and bartender.
I live in Brooklyn. |
